What equipment does maXpreps expect a photographer to have?

I'm interested in applying to be a maXpreps photographer. I'm not ready to do that yet, and I have a question for you that my application depends on.

I've been doing sports photography as a hobby for 11 years. Some current & past maXpreps photographers say I'm good enough to do this with maXpreps. But….. I've been using enthusiast gear -- not pro level. So, I'm starting to replace my gear with pro level. Eg, I have a 7D and a 7Dii, but I've just added an R6. I have a Canon 70-200/2.8 L II, but I don't yet have a good lens in the 24-70 range or one above a 200mm. I want to get lenses that maXpreps would find acceptable: I don't have enough money for the best Canon lenses, but I think there are good 3rd party lenses (Sigma, Tamron) that maXpreps would find acceptable. Can you tell me what some of those are so I can be eligible to shoot for maXpreps? I don't want to under buy and then discover that I should have spent more.

Eg:

Are 2.8 lenses essential, given the excellent high ISO performance of the R6?

Would a good quality 3d party 120-300 zoom cover longer range? Or, do you also want 400mm? How important are primes vs zooms?

Didn't find what you were looking for?
